What to Expect
Sunday School, 10:00 - 10:30
Our Lord’s Day gatherings begin with Bible studies in various classes for all ages. We currently have five Sunday School classes that meet throughout the building: ages 3-4, 5-6, 7-12, 13-18, and adults. The adult Bible class meets in the sanctuary and is usually taught by our pastor. In this class, we typically study individual books of the Bible over the course of 12-15 week classes, alternating between the Old and New Testaments.
Congregational Prayer, 10:35 - 10:55
After Sunday School, the whole church family gathers in the sanctuary for a time of prayer. Men lead aloud, praying for the LORD’s presence and power in our worship service.
Morning Worship Service, 11:00-12:20
Following congregational prayer, we transition into our worship service with a thoughtful and reverent musical prelude that helps prepare us to offer ourselves in worship to God. Our purpose is to give glory to God for who He is and what He has done. All of the elements of our service are intended to focus our attention on meeting with God through His Word in joyful sobriety and dignified simplicity.
-
During the service, our congregational hymns and psalms usually follow the Biblical theme of the sermon. When we sing, we have the privilege of singing unto the Lord. To complement the uniqueness of the truth we confess when we sing, the tunes to which we sing the truth sound distinctive from popular secular music. We sing from the original Trinity Hymnal, The Book of Psalms for Singing, and our own self-published supplement that contains classic hymns not found in either of the other hymnals.
-
We give attention to the public reading of Scripture (I Tim. 4:13). Since the Bible is God’s speech in print, we are actually listening to Him when we read the Bible together.
-
God urges that our worship include “supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks” (I Tim. 2:1). Our services give a significant place to these elements of prayer.
-
Giving our offerings to the Lord is a cheerful act of worship by which Christians express to God their recognition that all they have has come from Him. During the collection, our musicians will play a hymn, the words of which are printed in our order of worship.
-
The sermon usually occupies at least half of our service time. Most of our sermons are based on verse-by-verse preaching through a particular book in the Bible. We desire to receive the preached message “not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God” (I Thess. 2:13).
-
We observe the Lord’s Table six times every year– on the first Sunday morning of February, April, June, August, October, and December. In these services, we deliberately focus on the atonement accomplished by Jesus Christ so that we can approach the table full of “joy and peace in believing” (Rom. 15:13). Visitors are welcome to partake of the elements with us, provided they profess faith in Jesus Christ, are walking in fellowship with Him, and are not under the discipline of another congregation.
Evening Worship Service, 6:00 - 7:10
Our church family gathers together on Lord’s Day evenings for another worship service that includes more singing, praying, reading, giving, and preaching. We believe this is the best way to sanctify the Lord’s day– by beginning and ending the day in corporate worship.
Wednesday Prayer Meeting, 7:00 - 8:15
After beginning with a hymn and prayer, we share prayer requests. Then our pastor generally gives a 20-minute exposition of a Psalm, making specific application to our praying. Following the prayer talk, we use the remaining time to gather in small groups of 2-3 and we pray for each other’s requests. These mid-week gatherings serve as ideal opportunities for regular, meaningful Christian fellowship.
Childcare
On Sundays, we offer a well-staffed nursery for children ages three and younger. We desire all other children to worship with their families in the sanctuary. While we understand that young children will find worship difficult, we do not think it is in their best interest to remove them from corporate worship.
We do not offer a nursery or alternative youth programs on Wednesday evenings. We believe it is best for our children to pray with seasoned adult believers and to learn by experience how to cast their burdens on the Lord.
